Hello,

I'm what you called a noob, and I'd like to try night Vision Goggles, I think it can help in middle of smoke, but I don't like to camp, for that I need to disable quickly goggles. And from what I see, it's impossible to disable it quickly (enter in a menu, select object, press a key... I'm dead before the fist hotkey :-).

If someone has a "bind" to offer me for my "autoexec.cfg", I'd be happy ! TIA

I was not able to figure out a single hotkey, but I found this solution worked for me:

  • I'm working with standard wasd and f, g and h were unassigned
  • I assigned f to "use item" and g and h to switch between items
  • Upon start I choose the goggle item with g and now f functions as my goggle on/off key

What you can do is make sure the NVG is in your first item slot and make a bind:
bind x "ut_itemuse"

This will allow you to put the item that is currently 'active' to enable or disable. You can also 'enable/disable' laser and silencer attachments.

But if you grab an item (or a flag), your current active item might be changed. So it's wise to have a "next item" button so you can select the proper active item:
bind x "ut_itemnext"

PS = replace x with a key you prefer

such internal mechanics could use some work.

more explicit binds.

and UI support.

should be easy; i mean, come on, who is in charge of this, it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to add 3 or 4.

I feel somewhat 'responsible' for it. When i was asking for more explicit binds for 4.1 to woekele/27. This particular feature slipped my mind. I'm pretty sure they would had implemented it if i did mentioned it like all the other (scripting) stuff i asked and they implemented.

like: ut_itemuse nvg would have been easier

the f..

they need someone with direct understanding of practical gaming issues in their team doing that stuff; this is obvious, it should be in since 5 years ago.

i mean, we shouldn't even discussing it, it's easy (to put in) and obvious.

Play without goggles so they don't become a crutch. You don't get better with goggle assistance. Learn the maps. Learn the routes. Learn to jump/slide/move. This game has been around for way too long to not know the maps inside and out. Do a /devmap $mapname and run around the map for an hour until you know every crevice.

Unless you're in a match it was a complete retard who threw the smoke and is 95% of the time running in the other direction because hes a complete retard. Don't let the smoke scare you, there is no death by smoke inhalation in urt.

Thanks for all answers.

Ok, so there's no way to set goggles on/off with one key. Indeed, I think it should be in the todo list. It shouldn't be difficult to implement.

But thanks for your solutions, I'm going to try _itemnext and _itemuse. Is there a way to have goggles at primary item ? For now, my first item is kevlar. If I was able to set goggles, then it would be only one key. But I think it's not possible...

@3spades: I think you don't get it. I've discovered, as spectator, that some (really good) people are not bothered by smoke when it comes to defend their flag, and it was thanks to their goggles. They take advantage of smoke. At first, I was frustrated, but finally, I have admitted it is a good parade against smoke.

I play pretty much nothing but pub ctf. 9 out of 10 times I encounter smoke, the person throwing it is an idiot.
