Hi,
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my computer and got Urban Terror running almost fine. One big problem that I have is the default setting for the screen brightness is really low for me. And when I try to change it, the changes do not take affect.
I have tried running Urban Terror as root and it didnt work then either. Any suggestions?
Also I would like it so that the game starts in the same spot every time I start it. I play the game windowed, and in Windows XP whenever I start the game it always starts windowed in the center of the screen, but in ubuntu now the game starts windowed but in a corner. Any suggestions on this problem?
Thanks,
nev
p.s. When I run my windows verson of Urban Terror through a emulator, the brightness is set higher and it runs windowed in the center of the screen, like it does in Windows XP.

I had the "same" problem with NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G on Ubuntu 9.04 (and 8.04 too). I sometimes couldn't tell red and blue players apart because they were too dark and I often accidentally fired at teammates. Especially in Casa and Riyadh.
The problem was:
Brightness is applied just fine in fullscreen, but I don't like using fullscreen because I either have to make the game transparent rendering it unplayable or I can't see other open windows.
But when I play in window, the game uses lowest brightness and is oblivious of /r_gamma and/or the brightness setting. I tried ALT+TABbing out of the game and setting gamma manually in NVIDIA X Server Settings, but the moment I switch back to game, gamma goes back to default (slider moves on it's own).
The solution (silly me:):
I noticed I had to confirm the gamma change in NVIDIA X Server Settings (a new button secretly appears near the bottom-right corner of the window).

Same here, with Debian Sid i386 on intel i945... And no way to solve this. Someone see the problem here?
Full screen or 800x600 screen don't change anything. Maybe the new xorg (7.5) has changed something in the configuration? Or intel driver 2.9.1 has this bug?
Bah...
#EDIT:
I try to compile
libdrm 2.4.17, intel driver 2.10 from git, but still nothing...
