I posted a thread this afternoon concerning a 64 player server I've been in the process of developing. When I attempted to check the status of the thread, it was no longer present. This leads me to believe that it may have been removed by a moderator. If this is the case, I would like to know why it was removed so that I may avoid this situation in the future. Yes, I am aware of the forum rules. I have read this one:

Quote

Modifications (Mods):
The development team asks you not to modify Urban Terror or its resources files in any way. Please respect their choice. Do not create threads about this.

Though I do not feel that my thread was in violation of this rule. The modifications which I was suggesting applied only to ioq3, not to Urban Terror. Furthermore, many other threads exist which apply to ioq3 modifications (for example http://forums.urbant...urt-directly/).

If the thread was not deleted by a moderator, then excuse my rambling. I'd like you to know that threads are mysteriously disappearing :)

Your correct, I removed it. The reason being that Urban terror isn't made for such large player sizes, and such servers are frowned upon within the team because they poorly reflect Urban terror's good gameplay.

Alrighty, I will not post such topics in the future. Thanks for letting me know what was up.

Edit:
Out of curiosity, is there a general consensus on discussing ioq3 modifications on the forums? I realize there are certain lines which would be best not to cross (discussing ioq3 wall hacks, etc.) but it appears that optimizations are sanctioned. Just wondering what the general thoughts on the topic were.

Helpful and welcome is a very subjective criteria...

I'm not, nor have I ever been an advocate of 64 player TDM / FFA servers. I do, however, believe that there are useful applications for 64 player servers (servers hosting very large jump maps, for example). More importantly, I advocate experimentation and innovation, especially in the realm of code. Nevertheless, this is obviously not the arena to discuss such modifications.

for me are 12 players on one server the maximum.
64:12=5,33 so now we have 5 good servers without a player but therefor one buggy server with 64!

actual qtracker gives me 1029 Servers but only 131 servers with players 5 with password

  • 7 Server BombMode
  • 0 Capture And Hold
  • 37 Capture The Flag
  • 17 Free For All
  • 0 Follow The Leader
  • 42 Team Death Match
  • 23 Team Survivor

many servers are full or only with one person
and now go and find your server with:

  • good ping
  • good player count (good skill level)
  • good hits
  • gametype
  • map
  • language
  • VoIP
  • B3 bot
  • without bots cheetah, scorpion, ...
  • Frag-/timelimit
  • Friendly fire On/Off
  • lowgravity/nadeball/jumpmaps/pistol only/...

In pubs I enjoy up to 18.

mainly because at least 2 on each team are usually not playing. so it's basically a 6 to 8 vs 6 to 8 but with the provision of not running out of players.
