I saw them last night at a local concert hall. Two of the must-see old school death metal bands. It was a small enough venue to where I went up to Tony Lazarro from vital remains and was talking with him. Real cool guy. I asked him why Dave Suzuki wasn't with them anymore, he said that due to drama with touring in Europe, his girl that he is living with is too insecure and she forced him to resign from the band and get a day job. He hasn't talked to Tony at all since. Their music will continue to be brutal without him, because little to my knowledge till recently did I discover that Tony has actually been writing all of their music since the beginning. I look forward to a new album coming out.
If they're coming around your area, go see them.

I was listening to the latest dream theater album yesterday, the beginning of it.
gawd dam, that sounds like death metal in the beginning, they even have that dull black metal-ish drum machine-ish drumming (I'm sure it's done by their drummer though, they are sick in technical skilz).
I was expecting their usual soft prog metal.
then of course some ballads came up so whatever.
