This has been an issue since the first day I started playing, I've just put it off for an eternity. Does anyone know how to change this in the settings, or manually set a bind for it in the consol? It's pretty frustrating having to /disconnect to change settings like fullscreen mode.

bind ESCAPE                       "togglemenu"                         // Toggles The Menu Frame

make sure it's not offscreen at the top cos the menu is a thin strip bar... you might need to adjust your monitor settings if what obscure gave you "isn't working"

it's a legit question.

try binding another key to "togglemenu"

i still think that your screen is probably stretched vertically too much in urt, meaning the bar is off screen.

good idea. what's your resolution?

urt is known to not be perfect on widescreen.

but then he couldn't see death messages and the other hud stuff without noticing it?

No luck :/ and yes I can see the hits/kills/deaths info in the top left, it is not an issue of not being able to see the menu because it is off screen.

Hopefully the mac urt client will be fixed up in the 4.2 release (although I'm not getting my hopes up)

have you deleted all configs / moved them out of the way to see if it's a config issue?

Yes, I updated my config today actually. I did a little googling, and many other mac users are having the same issue when playing various other games on their mac. Sadly, I have not yet found an answer as to why my escape key will not work in-game. It's frustrating because it works just fine outide of urt, so I know it isn't just a matter of replacing my key or keyboard.

Are there any other mac users experiencing this problem?

Check the Speech Recognition pane of Speech preferences
Turn off “Speakable Items". It uses esc key for "listening"
