I was trying to check my appearance and read the manual and so i bound a key to toggle cg_thirdperson (in my autoexec.cfg) but when tried to use it, nothing happened...still in 1st person view !?!
Then i activated the console to check the value of cg_thirdperson and it said that there isn't such a variable ?!?

Did that variable changed it's name in 4.1 ? or was it locked/deactivated ?

I think you have to do /devmap
example /devmap ut4_uptown

This is only available in demo recording mode, 3rd person would be horrible anyway and involve cheating/peeking.

/cg_thirdperson 1 -3rd person is activated (Demo only)
/cg_thirdperson 0 -3rd person is de-activated (Demo only)

/devmap is for cheats and testing maps with bots etc etc.

No thirdperson are available in devmap, you should go try it.

3rd view is very funny, occasionally. Just be sure your with some drunk friends -)
Just do devmap, 3rdperson, vest, negev,... and jump!
Dunno if dark goggles work in 3rd.

When you are ghosting, you can go third person by pressing control g

/devmap ut4_uptown (and i guess it will work with any other map, right ?) worked just fine for what i wanted.

I don't want to cheat or play in 3rd point of view , like i said, i wanted to check appearance of me with settings that i wanted.

BTW, i see that i'm watching from behind, is it possible to watch from side or front ? or as an alternative, is there a map where is a good mirror to reflect me from front ?

I used to play this game long long ago....then i dropped it because those red uniforms ....i don't like very much the orange ones but i still decided to return...making now the bindings in a way that are similar in many ways to what i have in ET:QW ....then , will optimize the graphics and all....also, lot's of garbage in the screen that must go )

PS: FWIW, the variable works just fine when using /devmap, so in /devmap, i can toggle from 3rd to 1st point of view...

Go into the console and type cg_thirdp, then press TAB and you'll get a list of all the commands you want.

To see from front i changed cg_thirdpersonangle from 0 to 180 and to solve problem to be too close changed cg_thirdpersonrange from 40 to 100 and that did the trick .

There's a way to lock thirdperson in so you can play with it online (without cheats enabled). I did it once. It involved watching demos with cg_thirdperson 1 set, and then...I forget what else I did, but somehow it locked my cg_thirdperson to 1, and when I joined an online server, I couldn't go back to 0 as cheats weren't enabled on the server. Never managed to replicate this, but I think I have screenshots somewhere.
